Family Game Night is one of my favorite things to do with my family! It’s a great way to reconnect with the kids and have some fun. Our kids just love it too. We try to have a game night at least once a month if not more. My kids have voted and compiled a list of the best kid games for family game night.
Benefits of Family Game Night include:
- Does not cost money
- The television is not on
- Teaches kids problem solving skills
- Teaches kids how to deal with frustration, losing etc…
- Great bonding time for the whole family
Uno Attack! is an absolute blast. If you have not played this game you have to give it a try. It is regular uno but rather than the standard, draw one card feature, you press a button on a battery filled machine that fires a random number of cards at you. You never know how many cards are going to come flying at you which makes the game suspenseful and super fun. It’s great for all ages. Uno Attack! is by far my favorite game on the list.
We love Sorry! What’s great about Sorry is that it is actually a game that requires quite a bit of strategy which is really fun to play with the kids. Our 4 year can play on his own and doesn’t have to pair up with an adult. We are not those parents that let our kids win at games just because, and this game definitely gets very competitive in our house. Actually, it get’s down right cutthroat when we are playing. I feel like it has really taught our kids how to be good sports, and how to win and lose with grace.
Another suspenseful game, Shark Bite has you on the edge of your seat as you fish for bait out of a shark’s mouth. If you pull out the wrong fish, the shark will snap and bite you! This game has us laughing and jumping in surprise every time. Geared more towards a younger age group and not a lot of strategy in this one. It doesn’t take a lot of time to play but the kids really love it which is why it made the list of best kid games for family game night.
I remember playing mouse trap as a kid and absolutely loved it. My kids are just the same and love the updated version of the game. They get pretty competitive and have zero mercy on trapping mom or dad’s mouse! Full disclosure: while the updated version is much easier to set up than the old school version, it is still quite a lot of work to set up and has about a thousand pieces. Nonetheless, it makes the top list from my kids.
Good ol’ Life! Talk about a complicated game! Trying to explain college, mortgage payments and careers to young kids is not easy but my kids absolutely obsess over this game. It does take a while to play an entire game but the updated version allows you to have pets and has cute little dogs and cats that you can add to your classic car. My kids have no trouble keeping up with concept of the game. In fact, this is one of the first games they will request to play on Family Game Night.
